The government have launched an ambitious new Skills Policy and NHS England aim to triple the number of apprentices in the NHS by 2030. More and more young people are wanting to take on an apprenticeship as opposed to continuing education at school or university. An apprenticeship means they can get on the job learning but still earn a wage and not be left with staggering debt many get when leaving university. Primary Care is an excellent environment for an apprentice; it is varied, it is fast-paced and it is hard work and as the front-of-house for the NHS, it is a hands-on, practical experience which can open so many doors for them.

There are many benefits to taking on an apprentice; to fill the staffing gaps, to ensure a flow of skilled professionals, for succession planning. As demand for services grow, the need for well-trained professionals who can adapt and overcome new challenges, has never been more important. Over the years, we have seen many apprentices learn their craft, going on to become practice managers, IT managers and even going down the phlebotomist route and becoming excellent HCA’s.

Apprenticeships are not only for new employees, nor are they only for 16-18 year old's. They can be a very valuable way to upskill existing members of staff who are on track for management. You may have a number of apprentice’s employed to do a level 3 Business Admin qualification, however, they do not have to be doing the same role within the practice, apprenticeships are flexible to meet the different roles they play in your business.

And, most importantly, most apprenticeship costs are paid for by the Government, in some cases up to 95%.

This webinar is open to anyone who is taking on, considering taking on an apprentice, or for practices who want to upskill existing members of their team. You may not even be considering it, it may you just need more information to see if this could fit workforce issues. By attending this webinar, there is no obligation to work with us, just an opportunity to find out more about the process, what to look for when interviewing new members of staff, your obligations as an employer and how Insight & WELL Training can support you.
