Identifying & Supporting Unpaid Carers

Thursday 3rd Apr 2025

4.7 million people provide unpaid care in England, they outnumber the paid health & workforce by 2:1. Half of unpaid carers report at least one adverse health condition as a result of proving care. Caring also has a huge impact on people’s mental health.

There are many legal responsibilities to support unpaid carers, as professionals who are likely to be in contact with carers, you play a key role in delivering these responsibilities.

It is essential carers can be identified and offered the support they need, being connected to local services, being offered a carer’s assessment and supporting the outcome of any assessments.

Carers Uk have a resource to support health & social care systems in England to improve the inclusion, support and involvement of unpaid carers.
