One of the changes in the guidance this year relates to inhaler technique - the wording in the indicator has not changed but the guidance now states “the indicator explicitly requires an assessment of asthma control using a validated questionnaire, a recording of the number of exacerbation's, a face-to-face assessment of inhaler technique (or by video where that's not possible, and a written personalised plan.”

Utilising ARRS, many pharmacy technicians’ skills extend into LTC reviews, including asthma and diabetes. In terms of asthma, many pharmacy techs can check inhaler technique, compliance, check patient’s understanding, carry out a medication review, patient education, signpost to resources - and patient’s may only be referred to the practice nurse if necessary.

Pharmacy tech’s seem to be a huge success area for many practices when it comes to ARRS - as well as LTC, many are also involved in pill/HRT clinics, medication changes and lipid management. A development role is one sure way to keep staff engaged which is a core element of job satisfaction.
