Over 1,800 practices have now registered to become a Parkrun practice - a collaboration between RCGP and Parkrun UK. This social prescribing project encourages practices to link with their local parkrun, to benefit both staff and patients, helping to improve health and wellbeing. It is a 5k (3.1 mile) run, jog or walk, there are more than 1,300 weekly parkruns up and down the country and there are opportunities for both runners and volunteers; Parkrun is a free event and cannot happen without volunteers. Volunteering is a great way for people to get out into the community and build new friends, it really is a social event - which is also good for your health! In many areas, there is also a local junior Parkrun (4-14 years), this is a 2k event and a great opportunity for families to be physically active outside together.
