QOF - Mental Health in Remission

Friday 7th Feb 2025

Remission codes should only be used if the patient has:

  • No record of antipsychotic or mood stabiliser meds for 5 or more years
  • No MH in-patient episodes for 5 or more years
  • No secondary care MH follow-up for 5 or more years

Where a patient is recorded as being in remission, they remain on the MH register and continue to count towards your MH prevalence. They are, however, excluded from the denominator for MH002, MH003, MH006, MH007, MH011, MH012 and SMOK002.

In the event a patient experiences a relapse and is coded as such, this will automatically include them in associated indicators (denominators). The practice may be required to demonstrate they have a protocol/process for reviewing and adding appropriate remission codes.
