Registering patients prior to release from a secure residential estate

Friday 2nd Aug 2024

GPs have a contractual obligation to accept a patient for pre-registration prior to their release from the secure residential estate providing you do not have a closed list - a registration request can be made up to one month prior to release. The prison healthcare team will send a pre-registration notification to the receiving practice (using a signed GMS1 form) and the practice must then confirm the patient will be registered on the day of release.

The healthcare team will arrange for the timely transfer of clinical information to the practice - the emphasis being on medication history and substance misuse.
