Following on from our article in last month’s edition, about the expansion of the RSV vaccine eligibility, it has been brought to our attention that the arrangements in Wales for this cohort is being managed differently.
The Health Board’s Health Protection Operational team will assume responsibility for delivering the RSV programme to all care home residents, pregnant ladies, and the catch up programme for the expanded cohort of individuals aged 80 years and over (with no upper age limit), including any eligible housebound patients. The programme for this cohort will commence on the 1st April 2026 until 30th June 2026. After this date, individuals aged 80 years and over (with no upper age limit), including eligible housebound patients who have not taken up the vaccination during the Health Bord catch-up campaign, will remain eligible and will fall under the responsibility of their registered GP practice (if commissioned) from the 1st July 2026.
Practices who have signed-up to deliver the routine RSV vaccination programme from the 1st April 2026 to individuals aged 75-79 years, including all eligible housebound patients in this cohort, will continue to do so.
We apologise for causing any confusion, if you are still unsure we recommend you contact your Health Board for clarity.
