Higher Apprenticeships (Level 5) – Operations/Department Manager
Level 5 apprenticeships are equivalent to a foundation degree or Higher National Diploma (HND), making them a valuable development route for experienced staff. Currently, these programmes benefit from up to 95% government funding, offering a highly cost-effective way to upskill your workforce.
FROM SEPTEMBER 2026 GOVERNMENT FUNDING IS BEING WITHDRAWN FOR:
Operations Manager Level 5
Team Leader Level 3
Existing learners on these pathways will continued to be funded through to completion. These are generic leadership and management apprenticeships that have grown significantly but are predominantly used as continuing professional development for established staff aged 25 and over.
If you have team members who would be strong candidates for a Level 5 Operations Manager qualification, or staff taking on a leadership role who would benefit from the Team Leader qualification, enrol sooner rather than later to take advantage of the current funding before these changes come into effect.

Currently there is a government incentive of £1000 per apprenticeship for employers taking on 16-24 years apprentices as new employees and from April 2026, the apprenticeship qualification, previously 95% funded, will be fully funded.
Apprenticeships really can benefit your workforce – not everyone wants or can afford university, apprenticeships give a practical route into good careers and general practice can offer a young person a varied and interesting work experience. You get to grow talent from scratch, training employees exactly how you want things done, building the talent you need. In terms of succession planning, good apprentices are really loyal, they feel invested and valued. We are working with so many managers now who we placed as apprentices many years ago.
