We have received so many support tickets around the new QOF obesity indicators.  Some of these have been around recalls and ensuring practices update their recall systems to extend 2 invites to all patients on the obesity register, other queries have been concerning workload and how many patient appointments will need to made available.

A large proportion of patients on this register are likely to be on another QOF register – on this basis, is it necessary to target these patients at this point in the QOF year or wait until their diabetic review or heart failure review, and incorporate the obesity requirements into their review – record patients updated BMI and offer them a referral for weight management support, ensuring they are all appropriately coded in the patient record. Ensure appropriate codes are recorded for ALL invites for ALL QOF disease areas and if the patient does not respond after the 2nd invites are sent, they will be taken out of your  not achieved target.

Patients who are on the obesity register and no other QOF registers will need to be managed differently – and sent specific invites to attend a review or whatever intervention suits you and your patients.
