Whilst working with many practices on QOF prevalence this year, we have noticed a drop in prevalence for cholesterol – and as this is worth 64 points in total, it is worth ensuring your register is as accurate as possible.
This is made up of patients on your CHD, PAD, stroke/TIA and CKD registers. As PAD and CKD are no longer part of QOF, we have noticed practice CKD registers dropping which has a knock-on effect with patients on the cholesterol register.
Using the example above, the practice has more than 14,000 patients, they have high prevalence for CHD and stroke/TIA, however, due to having low prevalence for CKD and PAD results in their point value being adjusted down.
High or low prevalence is not wrong, it just needs to be accurate to ensure:
- Appropriate patient reviews are being offered
- To ensure you are being paid for the work you are doing, for the burden of disease on your practice
- CQC visits – they will expect you to demonstrate how you maintain your registers
