HF008 and HF007 remain the same this year – the associated ‘register’ for these indicators remains HF1, % patients with a diagnosis of heart failure.

HF009 is new to QOF this year, the associated ‘register’ for this indicator is HF3  – patients with a current diagnosis of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (which need to be treated with 4 key disease modifying drugs).

Note: as of today, only the top code is available for use, other codes to be added in a future release.

Practice B – last year’s HF/LVSD register was 179 patients, they have reviewed their target patients and their register this year sits at 99 patients. In previous years this register largely focused on Heart Failure due to Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction (LVSD) and the latest national average prevalence reflects that. However, this year the register now focuses solely on HF with reduced EF and as a result prevalence has decreased for many practices and will likely do the same nationally. As a result, the comparison between the previous national prevalence figures and your own may provide a start contrast.

However, we cannot stress enough how important it is to review patients who were previously on the HF/LVSD register and if appropriate, code HF with reduced ejection fraction using the code above to ensure your register is accurate and you are being paid for the burden of disease on your practice.
